The HeadCount product was originally designed in 1994. The South African Railway Corporation issued a tender for a counting device to measure people arriving and leaving the railway platforms as they wanted to measure the extent of ticket evasion on their carriages. To win the tender the product had to meet the stringent technical specification of achieving a certain level of accuracy. The counting product had to be accurate in both high and low pedestrian flows. After vigorous research and development, the HeadCount product met the specified requirement and went on to win the project.
In 1998, the HeadCount product was finally commercialized with its first installation at Tygervalley Shopping Centre in Cape Town, South Africa. Since then HeadCount has been installed in over 200 venues around the world … and growing. |
